Who are we & how did we get here?
We are David and Joanna Floyd, and we are in the process of adopting a child from Thailand. Our home study was approved in December 2017, Dossier submitted in February 2018, and our agency has told us that we will be matched in either late June to September 2018.
This means we will soon know our child’s name, age, and gender! Our expectation is we will be bringing our child home in early 2019. Our agency has approved us to adopt a child of either gender, who is as old as 4 years old. Additionally, we are approved to adopt a child who could have a number of medical and developmental challenges.

Before we got married, we separately felt called to adopt. As Christians, we know that God has called us to be a part of taking care of orphans. We're also commissioned to share with the world the gospel and that God is the Everlasting Father.
Adoption remained a goal for us as we began to consider starting our family. We were sure that one day we would adopt, but were unsure of when adoption would happen, how, or even from where.
Why adoption now?
In 2016-2017 we began looking into starting our family and seriously considered the risks that Joanna's chronic asthma would have on a pregnancy, the baby, and Joanna's overall health. We met with several specialists and did a lot of praying and discussing before we came to the conclusion that pregnancy would not be the way for us to become parents at this time, but that it was time to pursue adoption.
Please take a few minutes to watch our adoption journey video below. Thank you for joining us on the road to our adoption and for being a part of our story in any way Holy Spirit prompts you.
After much prayer and conversation with each other, we chose to first adopt internationally. The country that resonates, with us, is Thailand. Joanna spent 7 months volunteering in Thailand and we remain connected to Thai friends and volunteers in Thailand.
We appreciate Thai culture and desire for Thai people to come to know Jesus. We know that there are children all over the world and in our own country who need to be adopted into a loving home, but we hope to bring that reality to a little one in Thailand. We could go on and on about experiences that we now understand were like puzzle pieces leading us to this time- waiting to adopt our little one from Thailand!
We are both musicians and process our coping and understanding of life events through songwriting, as a way to express our thoughts and seek God's will. Desire, submission, marriage, waiting, and adoption have all been themes of so many of our songs for the past couple of years. We are excited to share our recorded songs with friends and family to raise awareness for the needs of orphaned children, raise funds for our adoption, and (most of all) hopefully inspire others to pray for our little one as we all wait to become a family together.
We see now that the journey is God's intention and the process is his way of bringing us to his feet- in all aspects of life, adoption included. We understand that this journey has barely even begun and that we are signing up for so many unknowns and changes to come. We are open to what God has in store for us, our marriage, and our family. We eagerly await the day when we know our child’s name and face and our journeys finally collide.
How to Participate ~
Prayer ~ Pray for our child: We have been moved to pray for our child’s birth family, especially their birth mother. We understand that during this time, she is probably making tough choices that we may never fully know or understand. We realize that as we are celebrating the joy of becoming parents, she is likely in a time of great pain and grief. We pray to be sensitive to this.
We pray peace for her and that somehow she will know that God is not far from her and longing to draw her near. We pray that our child’s birth family will one day come to know Jesus as their Savior. Please join us in praying for our child's birth family.
We also pray for protection, safety, food, and attachment for our child. We have been praying for whoever is taking care of our child during this time. We thank God for whoever it is and pray that they will come to know Jesus as Savior, too.
We understand that attachment leads to more attachment. We pray that he/she is able to attach securely to a primary caregiver, and we pray that one day we can develop secure attachment with our child. We understand that we may never know what our child has endured during our years apart, but we pray that God’s will is done and that He will prepare us for each other.
Ultimately, we pray that our child will one day come to know God as the perfect Father and will be saved. Please join us in praying for our child.
Pray for our family: We are trying to be intentional with how we live this season of “waiting to be matched.” We are focusing on strengthening our marriage and enjoying this special time we have before we become parents. We pray that God will prepare our hearts and actions for parenting our little one.
We see this season as a gift and aim to live it to the fullest! For us this means making music together, spending time outdoors, making memories with family, building community with other families in our area and church, and growing in our relationships with Christ.
Also, please pray that we will trust God to provide for our needs during this time- spiritual, relational, physical, and financial needs. It is easy to see that He has had His hand in this journey all along the way- we know the He holds the future, too!
Original Songs ~ For the past couple of years, we have been processing our marriage and adoption journey through songwriting. We have recorded these songs so that we can share them with others. We look forward to one day sharing our songs with our little one. In the meantime, we hope this music helps raise awareness and encourages others to consider and support adoption. Also, we will earn a little bit of money with each Spotify download and stream and iTunes download.
Gifts & Matching Grants ~ Join us in praising God that we have been awarded 2 matching grants! These grants double donations up to a certain amount- such a gift and answer to prayer.

David & Joanna Floyd
A quick message from Lisa: David and Joanna have been very creative in coming up with another adoption fundraiser beyond those mentioned above. It's loads of fun, takes a short time out of your busy schedule and impacts a child's life with a forever home.
Please consider booking a photo shoot (see flyer below) sometime this summer. You'll be delighted with the results, plus you'll simply have a blast with this fun and energetic couple - The Floyd's - David and Joanna!
PS - Almost all of the personal photos on this website are the creative work of David and Joanna Floyd. The photos were taken right in our own backyard to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.
