“My child, (Ruthie), if you truly want a long and satisfying life, never forget the things I’ve taught you. Follow closely every truth I’ve given you. Then you will have a full rewarding life.” Proverbs 3:1-2 TP
My church is spending the summer in Proverbs. We’ve been challenged to memorize Proverbs 3…word perfect! That is the challenge…word perfect!!!!
So, let me just tell you “word perfect” has never been my MO. Remembering for tests all through school, college included, was never my strength. I often wonder how I received that degree. Truly.
But I do have wonderful memories. Memories are the words/circumstances we do remember. The words I do remember are words Holy Spirit has spoken to my heart. When the Holy Spirit speaks in the middle of life to me, His words seem to be indelibly printed in my memory and I remember. His voice which often accompanies His presence lingers with a sweet aroma in my memory and I remember.
So the challenge to remember from Proverbs 3 has been an encouragement. As I memorized this first verse of 35 (I’m on verse 5 now), I’ve been reviewing and remembering “the things He’s taught me and every truth He’s given me.”
He is a patient, loving, and kind teacher.
Actually, if I don’t get any farther than these, I’ve received enough by remembering.
Looking back remembering AND looking forward to remembering all 35 verses of Proverbs 3 puts joy and anticipation in my heart. Word perfect? We’ll see…
