Is Christmas over for another 10 and a half months? Have you already packed away the decorations? Or do you like to linger with the tree lights through the first of the year?
Our western calendar indicates that Christmas is past. Today is another work day. We’re moving on in our fast paced world. The New Year is next to celebrate.
Many of us look forward to a new year. We see it as a fresh start. It’s an automatic do-over rolling around every 12 months. Traditionally the new year begins with resolutions - perhaps in the hopes of getting it right this time. Perhaps we go boldly into a new year determined to finally accomplish a dream. We set goals and gear up to take on a new year with a fresh look and renewed vigor.
And there’s nothing wrong with that…
Except that, as I look back on my almost 56 years past, I see a bunch of one year do-overs. Almost it seems as if that whole period of life was a waste of time or unfruitful if all the goals and resolutions were not perfectly fulfilled as intended. It seems my view of annual new beginnings has been quite short-sighted.
I believe in do-overs. Absolutely. Yes. 100%.
Grace is a continual invitation to a clean slate. A fresh start. New Life!
What if daily we could take a moment to ponder the “right now” events of Heaven? Does Christmas ever end in Heaven? Can you imagine? Aren’t the angels and the saints constantly in view of Jesus? Don’t you imagine they are singing praises to Jesus for Who He is and for His sojourn to Earth and then His return to Heaven?
And what about the ongoing preparations for His return as the Reigning King?
I can’t even fathom there are do-overs in Heaven. There’s no need of a fresh start. Rather I can only imagine a continual moving forward in Kingdom life.
What if my perspective could shift from an earthly time ruled agenda, and turn to a Kingdom perspective without time constraints? What if I could have a whole paradigm shift in my thinking and see that every year is a continuation of my training for all that is yet to come?
Is it possible that what I see as a need for a do-over God sees as my next level of training? A training season here as I sojourn through my life on Earth awaiting my King’s return to Rule and Reign. And yet, what if I could remember Immanuel - God with us - all through the year? I think this Immanuel perspective beyond December might just brighten my outlook on a new year.
So what if at this place in time we ask Father to give us a Kingdom mindset for the year ahead - 2019 in Earth time. How about pondering the way all the events of last year and the year before - the good, the bad, the joyous and the sad - all work together to train you for all that is next in God’s plan for your life?
Does Christmas have to be over if Christmas really means Immanuel - God with us? Do we truly believe Jesus has not left us alone? Are we able to let our hearts trust that He is true to His Word?
What of these well known words spoken by dear old Mr. Scrooge?
“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach!” ~ Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol
I do pray for you and for me:
Lord, Jesus, please remove the scales from our eyes which prevent us from seeing you present in our lives today. You told us in Your Word that You would never leave us or forsake us - Your creation. And even though You returned to our Heavenly Kingdom You sent The Comforter - Holy Spirit to dwell with us here until You return.
Jesus, Father, Holy Spirit would You help us in this season to take You completely at Your Word? Would You fill us with a hunger and a thirst for Your Word? Would You give us faith eyes to look for You daily - Immanuel with us?
Lord, would You renew our minds and transform our thinking from an earthly survival mindset to a Heavenly Kingdom thriving lifestyle?
For Your Glory and to build Your Kingdom, Lord.
Amen. May it be so…
